Individuals who are slated to receive their MBA degrees this spring are bracing for a ultra-competitive workforce.
Although the sluggish economy has slowed hiring in recent years, the latest economic news from Department of Labor indicates that the country is slowly but surely recovering from the recession. The government agency reports that the unemployment rate dropped to 8.8 percent in March, as the nonfarm payroll employment increased by 216,000 jobs.
The latest figure, which is a slight improvement from February's 8.9 percent, is the lowest rate since March 2009. Furthermore, the jobless rate has dropped a full percentage point in the last four months, the quickest turnaround in that period since 1984.
"The unemployment rate has broken through the sound barrier and is continuing to decline," said Sung Won Sohn, economics professor at Cal State-Channel Islands, told CNN. "The recovery in employment is here to stay."
Students who are still trying to determine which field business they want to enter may be inspired by the latest data. In March, employment opportunities in professional and business services expanded by 78,000 jobs. In addition, the healthcare sector grew by 37,000 positions. |
