BigTime Software pegs E. Jeffrey Lyons as its new president

10/28/2010

A global provider of computer software recently named E. Jeffrey Lyons as its new president.

Lyons, who earned his MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, has been hired by BigTime Software, a company that provides productivity tools for growing professional firms. Lyons, who will also serve as a member of the board of directors, will be responsible for leading corporate strategy in a direction that will increase profits and create shareholder value.

Prior to joining BigTime, Lyons was the operating director of City Capital Advisors, an invesment and merchant banking firm based out of Chicago. In 2002, he co-founded a marketing group that grew to be a firm worth more than $60 million.

"Jeff and I have been professional colleagues since the mid-1990s, when he helped grow and sell my first company, DaVinci Software, Inc., to a private equity firm," said Brian Saunders, founder and chief executive officer of BigTime.

Before studying at the Kellogg School of Management, Lyons earned his bachelor of business administration from the University of Michigan. On the same day Lyons was named the new leader of BigTime, a fellow MBA recipient from Kellogg, Rod Kenley, was named the president of Aethlon Medical.

Thousands gather in Chicago for Hispanic business conference and expo

More than 7,000 people attended the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) Conference and Career Expo last week in Chicago.

The event, which celebrated the future opportunities and past achievements of Hispanic MBA graduates in the business sector, welcomed nearly 300 sponsors who had booths on the career expo floor. The first day of the conference featured seminars, workshops and networking events. Companies such as Best Buy, McDonald's and IBM hosted discussions on a variety of topics, including career development, diversity and global management.

The second day began with the NSHMBA CEO Speaker Series, which drew more than 1,200 attendees, and the expo floor was officially opened to visitors.

"I am really awe-stricken at the concerted effort and work that go into pulling off our annual conference & career expo," said Manny Gonzalez, chief executive officer of NSHMBA.

The conference ended with the Brillante Awards for Excellence Ceremony, where companies and business professionals were recognized for their dedication to the Hispanic community. The University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business was given the Educational Excellence award.

Hispanic entrepreneurs are flourishing in certain areas of the country. According to the Providence Journal, Hispanic-owned businesses in Rhode Island have increased nearly 69 percent in a five-year span.
