| Grad of UConn MBA program climbs ladder at major insurance company |

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut has promoted Christine Higgins to the vice president of underwriting, which is the department that assesses the eligibility of a customer to receive the company's products.
Anthem, which is one of the leading health insurance providers in the U.S., first hired Higgins in 1992 after she earned her MBA degree from the University of Connecticut. Over the past two decades, she has worked in several departments, including health benefits analysis, major and commercial accounts underwriting, as well as sales. Most recently, Higgins was the director of sales for Anthem's public sector sales teams, where she was responsible for managing a group of 16 executives.
"Christine has a proven record of building strong teams and delivering results," said David Fusco, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Aside from her day-to-day work duties, Higgins has devoted her time to giving back to the community. She has been an active leader in Anthem's "culture teams," which provide financial support to nonprofit agencies and causes. Higgins recently received a Business New Haven's Rising Stars award, which is presented to professionals who have distinguished themselves through their leadership in the workplace.
According the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), most large insurance companies prefer to hire underwriters who hold a degree in business administration, such as an MBA. |
