Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) recently announced that it will soon offer an MBAdegreeprogram in Maine.
The Sun Journal reports that the school will offer the MBA courses at Central Maine Community College beginning in January. Charles Morrison, the president of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, said that his region has needed this addition for more than a decade.
"Whenever we do surveys, it's something people want educationally," Morssion told the news source. "It's one of the things people have said: 'There's nowhere to get an MBA in the community."
Morrison added that the MBA degree will help professionals move up in the corporate world and the nonprofit sector. He said that the University of Southern Maine-Lewiston-Auburn College offers graduate courses in organizational studies, which can prepare students for certain aspects of the nonprofit management, but do not provide them with "a usable business degree."
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average earnings for full-time management staff in the nonprofit sector is $34.24 per hour. Managers in this field earn salaries that are not significantly different than those in state government, the bureau reports.
