In an effort to create a more versatile businessperson, the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) is adding a new graduate program that promotes global relations.
According to The Prospector, the UTEP business college recently introduced the International MBA degree. Students in the program, which will take 22 months to complete, will learn how to speak Spanish and Mandarin.
"Our goal is to create global opportunities for our students, so they can have as broad a world perspective as possible and be successful here in El Paso or Hong Kong," Laura Uribarri, director of the MBA programs, told the news source.
Students will also have opportunities to travel abroad in order to complete international research projects, which will contribute toward their degree. For many graduates of the IMBA program, a translator won't be necessary when they are conducting international business.
A recent article in the Foreign Policy Journal reports that languages are easier to adopt and less confusing if you hear them without their translated meanings. The journal says that people should create a "linguistic box" in their head to store words from a foreign language, thus eliminating the habit of recalling a word based on its English translation. |
