Team-building activities help MBA candidates make professional connections

8/13/2010

Many business professionals choose to enroll in an MBA program in order to boost their resumes. However, these individuals may not realize that schools of management can foster their career development in other ways.

A great deal of these institutions are home to some of the country’s most experienced business experts. In addition, many highly skilled and connected individuals choose to attend these schools in order to stay abreast of emerging trends in their industries.

As a result, business school could be a great platform for up-and-coming professionals to network with one another. In fact, some of these colleges are beginning to foster student communication before these degree seekers even open a book.

For example, the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech recently announced it will host a week-long orientation for its MBA students, which will include a series of team-building and problem-solving activities.

Programs will include information sessions, meet-and-greets with faculty and alumni, and professional presentation training.

Similar events could help MBA candidates make connections quickly and begin developing their careers before they have even earned a degree.
