The economic downturn has made many business professionals fearful that recent B-school graduates who are willing to accept lower salaries could threaten their jobs. As a result, some of these individuals are choosing to update their educational qualifications in order to increase their value to employers.
At the same time, many schools of management are creating convenient MBA programs that enable working students to complete their schoolwork online or during evening and weekend hours. In addition, the curriculum for many of these courses of study was designed with experienced individuals in mind, and consequently omits many foundational business teachings.
The executive MBA program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is an example of these educational opportunities, as Arkansas Business reports that it features a flexible class schedule, networking opportunities and reimbursement for travel expenses.
Similar courses of study could enable working adults to update their skill sets without sacrificing their career development. They may also help graduates earn higher salaries, as the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that master's degree holders typically earn hundreds of dollars more per week than professionals who have only earned bachelor's degrees. |
