Students who are beginning their MBA degree at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business have been learning the value of a hard day's labor, according to The Herald-Sun.
Around 25 graduate students who are enrolled in the MBA program at the business school in North Carolina participated in the construction of a home for nonprofit organization Habitat for Humanity.
"What I like most about their participation is that it gives them the opportunity as future business leaders to be in the community and understand how they can connect in the future with the community," Mitzi Viola, Habitat of Durham's director of development, told the newspaper.
Students were given minimal instruction on how to erect structural features of the house such as walls, and were instead left to rely on initiative and teamwork to complete the project. Once finished, the home will be made available alongside others built by the nonprofit to qualified Durham residents at an affordable price to encourage home ownership in the area.
The business school offers students a wide range of courses of study to help them succeed professionally, including daytime, international and executive MBA degree programs. Officials from the Fuqua Business School recently announced construction of a campus in Kunshan, China, to capitalize on the emerging Asian financial markets, according to the school's official website.
