Retiring CEO found his passion while pursuing his MBA

10/4/2010

While working to complete his master's of business administration (MBA) degree at Wisconsin-based Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Ford Titus discovered that he had a passion for hospital administration.

Four decades later, Ford is retiring from his position as CEO of ProHealth Care, the company that runs Waukesha Hospital. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Ford has helped shape the company, which currently boasts about 5,400 employees and earns about $700 million per year.

Ford was an MBA student from Xavier University in Cincinnati when he was first introduced to the hospital industry by accepting a job at Waukesha in 1969.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the duties of healthcare executives and administrators are changing rapidly because of technological innovations and government-sanctioned reform within the industry.

The BLS reports that healthcare is a business and, like every business, it needs strong management to keep operations running smoothly.

A master's degree is a standard credential to become a manager in the heathcare field, according to the BLS.
