Schools integrate communication skills into their curricula

The difficult job market has forced business professionals to prove their worth more than ever before. As a result, recent graduates of MBA programs are forced to compete in a cutthroat applicant pool when they wish to enter the workforce.

However, some industry experts believe that several schools of management are not preparing their students for many of the real-world situations that often arise in a business environment. As a result, some of these institutions are redesigning their masters-level courses of study.

For instance, school administrators at Chatham University recently began teaching students negotiation, persuasion, innovative thinking and entrepreneurship skills, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Education experts believe that adding these teachings to a traditional MBA program - which focuses heavily on spreadsheet development and case study analysis - could help students to succeed in the boardroom.

Furthermore, many business school are beginning to increase their web-based offerings in an effort to ensure that current and prospective professionals are able to hone their communication skills while they work toward a degree, according to the news source.

Individuals who complete an MBA program may be able to increase their salaries by more than $200 per week, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
